Second Transnational Meeting

Covilhã - Portugal

9th and 10th March 2017

The meeting started  with the presence of all the participants except the Lithuanian partners who, because of reasons relating to problems in the Paris airport, could only get to Covilhã at 12.00. The meeting was chaired by the Portuguese coordinator who asked all the partners present in the meeting  to introduce themselves: Katja ter Wee and Emmy Landeweerd from The Netherlands, Dace Bertule and Ieva Pudza from Latvia, Birgit Peterson and Tiiu Leibur from Estonia, Ahmet Semizoglu and Soner Güler from Turkey.

After the introductions, the Portuguese coordinator began to explain how the Portuguese Educational System works. This explanation was followed by some questions of the partners who wanted to know more about it or wanted to clarify some aspects .

Following this presentation, the participants watched a video, named ACQUA, made by the students of class 10D2 with the help of their teachers. Next, they watched another video about the city – Covilhã.

After watching the video, the participants were invited to watch some activities related to water that the Portuguese students had prepared. They  watched a dance with teachers and students, a short play called “The legend of the Three Drops of Water” and a poem - “A Teardrop of a Black Woman” by a Portuguese poet – António Gedeão.

After these representations, the group was divided into two. One group attended a Maths class and the other attended a Chemistry one. After 45 minutes, the time each lesson took, each group attended two other different classes – Mechanics and Drawing.

After the lessons, the partners  commented on  them with the others and compared some situations in the classrooms to their countries’.

Roberta Firaviciute and Auguste Matvijenkaite had arrived and also attended the lessons.

In the afternoon,  the partners were driven to a thermal resort where a member of the staff of the hotel explained to them how thermal waters were being used to treat some diseases. Following this visit the participants went to see how a local river was used as a swimming pool in the open air, during summer. The trip went on to a nearby village where they saw a water mill in action, grinding corn into flour. Then, the group, with the help of a guide, visited a house, representing the traditional houses of the region, and she explained how people lived in that region in the beginning of the XX century.

In the evening, all the partners had dinner together at a local restaurant.

The following day, on the 10th March the participants met in school where Roberta Firaviciute chaired the meeting.

Roberta began by asking the partners not to forget to post all the activities they do on the page of the project on Facebook or on the website. Photographs and paintings should also be posted on the web page. Partners should also include information about common activities. She also asked about the activities all partners had to do until this meeting. She reminded that all participating partners should follow the deadlines.

Later on, Emmy Landeweerd from The Netherlands informed the partners about the visit to her country. This will take place between the 9th and the 15th March, being the 9th and the 15th travelling days. She gave some useful information about how to get to Almelo and also presented a draft of the programme to be followed in the Netherlands.

Roberta reminded the participants that, for that visit, each country should prepare a lesson to teach the Dutch students. The lesson may include two parts: one related to a subject (Maths, Physics, Biology…) and the other related to the language of the teacher who is giving the lesson.

Following this, all the teachers showed the drawings their students had done about water and  each partner exchaged 3 drawings of their students with the others in order to make it possiblke a joint exhibition in each country.

After the meeting, the headteacher of Campos Melo school – Isabel Fael-  thanked all the partners for their coming to Covilhã, told them how happy she was to have them here and then, she distributed the certificate of attendance to everybody.

After visiting some old streets in the city, namely some street paintings by local urban artists the group went to the City Hall where they were received by the  Councillor of Education.

After the reception at the City Hall, the visit to the city continued.

At around 5:30 partners set off to their destinations.

They were two fantastic days where everybody had the opportunity to exchange ideas and to know a bit of our culture.

It was very nice to have you all here and we are looking forward to the next developments of the project.

THE TEXT OF THE PLAY: The Legend of the Three Drops of Water;

LEGENDS OF WATER

Narrator

3 Drops of Water :  Shining Drop Glittering Drop              Silvery Drop

The Fairy Queen

Narrator: Once upon a time, a Fairy, ALBA was her name,  was walking in a garden, enjoying the beauty of life and the singing of the birds when, the moment she was passing by a camellia tree, she heard calling her name.

Drop1 – Alba, Alba!

Drop 2- Alba!

Drop 3- Alba!

Narrator – The fairy looked around , unable to follow the sound until her eyes stopped on the camellia tree. Touching the heart of the tree she asked very tenderly:

Fairy – Oh, my lovely drops! Did I hear my name? What do you want from me, my sweets?

Drop1 – Oh, Wise fairy of the  valley! We need someone to help us settle a dispute.

Fairy – Let me know what the problems is, my dear. How can I be of help?

Drop 2- As you can see, we are three different drops of water, coming from very different places. We would like you to be the judge of this dispute: Please, let us know which one of us is the best, which is the purest?

Fairy – Oh, that is  a hard mission. Every drop of water is unique. Every drop is fundamental , but I’ll do my best not to be unfair. Ok. Let’s start – You first, Shining Drop.

Narrator – And the Shining Drop had its word.

Shining Drop – I come from high above, from the highest clouds. I am the the daughter of the great blue sea. I was born in the vast, dep ocean. I’ve visited beaches, danced with rocks, played with children on the sand. One day, a big dark cloud sucked me. I went sky high where the golden star shines. Later,  I’ve rolled down among thunder and lightening and I fell down here on this flower where I now rest. I stand for the oceans, for the home of fish and algae.

Fairy – OK. Now it’s your turn, you glittering drop!

Glittering Drop – I am the morning dew that feeds the lilies in the fields, I am the sister of the opaline moonlight, the daughter of the mist that stretches its arms when night embraces nature. I stand for the dawn and the earth.

Fairy - A very good mission of yours! (turning to the smallest drop) – What about you my silvery droplet?

Silvery Droplet – Oh, I’m worth nothing!. I am completely useless. I did not come from the oceans… I did not come from the skies…

Fairy – Oh, come on, dear! Where did you come from?

Silvery Droplet – Well, I’ve come from the eyes of a bride. First I was a smile, then I was belief… I was hope and today… I’m a teardrop.

(The other drops were laughing of the silvery droplet. The fairy was listening to her attentively, took the silvery droplet in her arms and said:

Fairy: You are the worthiest. You are the purest of all!

Shining Drop- “ But Alba, I was the ocean that was home for every fish, for every sea plant. I was food for every man…

Glittering Drop - What about me? I came from the sky, I feed the dried land, I quench the thirst of the birds, I feed the rivers, the fountains, I am life…

Fairy – Yes, you are all that. All drops are important. Every one of you is unique, is fundamental for life on Earth. But, this sister of yours, is pure emotion, She is soul, She is heart.

Narrator:

Soul and heart together can be found in every tear you drop.
